Do I have enough for an auction at my own site?

Determining if the auction should be held at your site is based on:

1. Type of property to be sold

2. Expected value

3. A site conducive for auction including location

4. Marketing & auction production costs

5. Quantity being the least important criteria

 

Where do I go with my items if the auction it isn’t held on my property?

Add it to a “multi-seller” consignment auction. (Brandau-Hill conducts multi-seller consignment auctions  periodically throughout the year at their auction facility in Kendall, WI)

How do we get the items there and who hauls the items?

Items are brought to the auction facility in Kendall up to one week prior to the scheduled upcoming auction.

1. Sellers may bring their own items in where they are stored until auction day.
2. Sellers may use our open or enclosed trailers to bring items to the site.
3. Sellers may hire Brandau-Hill personnel to pick up items and haul them to the site.  Fees based upon hourly wage, hauling fee and mileage.

 

What does it cost?

Brandau-Hill charge a commission based upon gross sales plus marketing costs.  The commission charged is based upon the overall value of the property to be sold.  The higher the value sold the lower the commission rate.  Set-up fees are based upon the sellers needs and the amount of labor involved.

 

Who gets the auction ready?

This is up to each seller.  Brandau-Hill will consult, advise, and assist based on the seller's needs. Brandau-Hill can do a complete set-up or none.

 

When do I get paid?

At single-seller auctions (your site) we generally pay within 2 hours of the completion of the bid-calling portion of the auction.  Items that require titles, have higher dollar amounts, or financed items may require that final settlement be postponed up to a maximum of 30 days.  All funds are held in a trust account until the settlement is made.  Real Estate Auctions are paid at the time of closing.

 

What about sales tax?

Brandau-Hill takes care of any sales tax that must be collected.  Multi-seller auctions are always taxed for sales tax.

 

Do I have to report  the auction sale to the IRS?

Consult your accountant.  We will provide you with a type written inventory of all items sold and a settlement sheet which will indicate the gross sales, the expenses and the net check.
